About Me

Hello!
My name is Allison and I am a native to the beautiful state of Colorado.  I love doing things outdoors, like most Coloradans, but as a plus-size woman I find some struggles with outdoor activities as well.  So I decided that I would make a commitment to myself to try to get out hiking more to get myself into better shape.  I decided that it might be helpful if I utilize blogging to help motivate myself more by sharing my journey with others.

I currently work a full time job while also juggling grad school.  I laugh when people ask about my social life, I will have to recover that element of my life after I finish school.  I live with my partner, our dog Dexter and our cat Oscar.  My partner and I have both been struggling with weight loss and managing stress at home.  Once upon a time I wanted desperately to be an adult - you can eat whatever you want and buy whatever you want and go on trips whenever you want.  Alas, some of the consequences weren't well understood until I got to this point in my life.  Mid-thirties, my bank account is only so not big at all for some of the traveling I've hoped to accomplish, I'm uncomfortable with what I weigh and have a metabolism that isn't as speedy as it once was, and trying to get myself back into the swing of things so that I have more energy and feel better health-wise.

I had a challenging year in 2015 due to significant health issues arising and the medical specialists I worked with eventually, after 5 months of searching, decided "maybe it's your gallbladder?"  With just enough to determine that this might be appropriate, out it came.  But the 5 months of lower activity levels followed by the time to recover has not done any favors to my waistline.  In addition I find myself in denial about how big I have gotten.  Recently I had a client ask me if I have the mumps because of "how fat your cheeks look".  I sighed and said "No, I can't get mumps, I'm just fat."  I can't seem to help myself sometimes when there are donuts or Girl Scout Cookies are brought into the office.  Many of my pants are uncomfortable to wear, my tummy inching its way out little by little.  Well enough is enough.  I'm ready to get back to it!

The last time I was able to go for a hike was long enough ago that I had to dust off my hiking boots.  I had purchased a new CamelBak pack before I got sick as I had thought I would be hiking at least one fourteener, it still had all the tags on it when I pulled it out of the closet the other day.  I've got some longjohns and wool socks.  Pack up the car, it's time to go!

Thanks for reading, I look forward to sharing this journey with you!
Sincerely,
Allison
